For almost 30 years my main interest has been to understand the role of the placenta in mediating or protecting the fetus from the adverse maternal environment associated with diabetes and obesity.
Recently I have explored placental metabolism and transport of lipids and have been working on characterizing the effects of insulin and IGF-2 on trophoblast and endothelial cells. Now the 1st trimester of pregnancies and possible programming mechanisms has come to the centre of my attention.
