Who we are

and what we do

We are a group of researchers of the Medical University of Graz fascinated by how maternal and fetal factors drive pregnancy and placental function.
We analyse pregnancy associated factors and placental physiology in health and disease. Moreover, we have established a panel of cell and tissue culture methodology and functional assays which we combine with molecular cutting edge analyses to address our research questions in vitro.

Invitation to the

2nd Symposium on Human Milk Oligosaccharides in Pregnancy –Back to the Future

Based on the overwhelming interest in the 1st Symposium on HMO in pregnancy, we are happy to announce the 2nd Symposium on this topic.

Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMO), bioactive glycans in human milk, are increasingly gaining attention for their many potential benefits for the breastfed infant. Latest research shows that HMO are already present during pregnancy, and thus, might also play roles for maternal and fetal health, and fetal programming.

This Symposium organized by the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Medical University of Graz, aims to highlight current HMO research and to introduce the novel concept of HMO in pregnancy, bridging HMO research with the fields of perinatology and feto-maternal medicine. By bringing together leading experts in the respective fields, this Symposium will open the discussion on exciting future research initiatives, investigating HMO as bioactive factors in pregnancy and beyond.
